UX Writing guide - Canada Post

The task

Before I departed on maternity leave in late 2021, my boss tasked me with creating and writing an extensive training manual for future UX content writers. This was a necessity because most of my work had been unsupervised as I am quite autonomous in my role at Canada Post.

The challenge

There was no document style to adhere to, no starting point or sample document to build off of as it was the first document of its kind for our department. The goal was to pass on all the company-specific knowledge I had acquired to all new remote hires without the need for training sessions. It was a challenging task because I had worked there for three years on a wide range of assignments (from emails to blogs, magazines, campaign pages, advertisements and more) in collaboration with many teams who worked in different ways.

The solution

The document I created is broken into several chapters and covers everything from how to write meta data to how to interact with stakeholders and project managers. It is organized with a linked table of contents that makes it easy for the reader to navigate to its different chapters and subsections. It has been passed on to all the new UX writers at Canada Post and serves as an essential resource for them.
